-slab-a piece of clay rolled flat to create a sheet of clay.
-coil-a rope or strand of clay form using an extruder or by hand rolling.
-slip-a thick mixture of water and clay that can be applied to clay with fingers, a squeeze bottle or a brush.
-score-the roughing of the clay surface to help bond pieces of clay together when slip is added and pressure is applied to the clay pieces.
-leather hard-clay allowed to dry out, but still flexible enough to bend without quickly breaking.
-greenware-unfired clay object.
-bone dry-clay containing no moisture.
-bisqueware-clay fired 1 time.
-pierce-to use tools to cut holes or shapes through the clay wall.
-wedge-mixing and cutting the clay to homogenize the clay body and to eliminate air bubbles in the clay.
-sgraffito-application of colored slip to the surface of the clay that is allowed to dry until it is no longer shiny and then carved through to reveal that contrasting color of the clay body.
-stamping-pressing objects into the surface of the clay to form images, patterns or textures.
-fettling knife- a tool used to cut the clay into specific shapes.
-glaze-a mineral filled solution applied to bisqueware that provides color, texture such as shiny or matte and seals the surface after it has been fired in a kiln.
